Learn-to-Dive

The Program

If your child is comfortable in the deep end of the pool, they can learn the exciting sport of diving!

We offer fun learn-to-dive classes for all levels, from beginner to intermediate and more advanced. Classes are available for children, teens and adults.

We run three sessions — in fall, winter, and spring.

Although the attraction to diving is quite often the thrill of jumping off a high platform, our learn-to-dive classes incorporate an emphasis on power, control and grace.

Learn-to-dive participants often progress into our pre-competitive and competitive diving program.

What to expect

Participants are introduced to diving in a fun, active and safe environment.

The program consists of four progressive skill levels. Each skill needs to be performed comfortably before a diver advances to the next level.

Each class lasts 60 minutes, and includes a warm-up poolside and diving instruction at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. The instructor-to-diver ration is capped at 1:8.

Divers learn on the 1m and 3m boards. Depending on their comfort, instructors may allow them to jump off the higher diving boards.

Divers should bring a towel and flip flops, and wear a one-piece bathing suit to each class.

Each season ends with a mini-meet that allows divers to show off the skills they’ve learned in a low-pressure environment run by our older divers.

  • "Great fun. I take the adult class (I had never dived before) and it is a great hour to do some diving and try your hand at a different type of sport. Cannot recommend it enough."
