| Welcome to The Forest City Diving Club! |

Introduction & Policies |
||||
|
The Forest City Diving Club is one of the premiere instructional and competitive dive clubs in Canada,
based at the
Canada Games Aquatic Centre
in London, Ontario.
We are a fully accredited member of
Diving Plongeon Canada ("DPC")
and its provincial arm, Dive Ontario.
We are committed to doing our part to realize the DPC goal of making Canada the greatest diving nation in the World.
As well, we have adopted and all of our members are subject to all of the DPC
Policies.
In 2008, The Forest City Diving Club ranked third in all of Canada at the Jr. National Diving Championships and has
been among the top 10 clubs in Canada at both the Junior and Senior National Championships for several years running.
We are very proud of the fact that our head coach, Ioana Marinescu, and two of our divers, Celina Toth and Austin Mix,
won gold medals at the Speedo Jr. National Championships and were selected to the national team to represent Canada
at the Jr. World Championships in Aachen, Germany in September, 2008. In addition, virtually 100% of our competitive
divers qualified to compete at the national championships - of the 10 that attended, 8 made it to the finals.
On a provincial level, in 2008, the Forest City Diving Club again dominated the medal podium and won the overall team award at the
Ontario Provincial Diving Championships - while 5 Forest City divers were named outstanding diver in their
respective age groups.
We have hosted some of the highest profile diving competitions in the country. For example, in 2003 we hosted the
largest (and many would say the best) Junior National Diving Championships ever.
In 2005, we hosted world champions Alexandre Despatie and Blythe Hartley at the Summer National Championships
and World Championship Trials. We are committed to bringing even bigger and better diving competitions to our city.
Much of our success is due to our coaches' passion for the sport of diving and their dedication to the development
of high performance athletes.
Our Head Coach is Ioana Marinescu. Ioana is a former Olympic and World Championship diver,
hailing from the eastern bloc country of Romania, where she was the national champion for 7 years running.
Ioana placed 9th at the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona (10 Metre tower).

Programs Available |

|
The Forest City Diving Club offers a variety of programs....
For beginners of any age, we offer a number of learn to dive sessions throughout the year. These recreational programs are designed to introduce novices to the enjoyment of the sport of diving in a fun and safe environment. Christmas, March Break & Summer Dive & Trampoline Camps For children aged 6 - 12, our learn-to-dive camps are offered periodically and are specially designed to give campers an introduction to the enjoyment of the sport of diving in a fun and safe environment. Generally the camps include step-by-step instruction in Olympic-style springboard diving, trampoline and dryland training, as well as a variety of arts, crafts and other fun activities. Divers who are excelling in the Learn-to-Dive program and who aspire to dive at a higher level may be invited to join the Future Olympians programs where they will train more often and with a view to advancing to the competitive team. Membership in the competitive team is by invitation only. The focus of the Competitive Team's intense instructional program is on developing personal excellence and self-esteem, and achieving success at Regional, Provincial, National and International championships. For new members of the Competitive Teams, the coaches will meet with the diver's parents to establish an appropriate dryland and pool training schedule, bearing in mind factors such as the diver's age, schooling and commitment to the sport. Competitive divers will generally train between 3 and 6 days per week. |
